OK, so you want to start your own business. You have looked at many business opportunities - and you have narrowed down your list to one or two serious business opportunities.

The best way to ensure that you make make money online is to be able to say to your customers, We Accept Credit Cards.

If you don't already have a merchant account, you can't accept credit cards. You need to apply to open such an account. There are many solutions on the market. For instance, you can open your own merchant account so that you deal directly with your bank. Alternatively, you can apply to join a "joint" merchant solution provider. The provider deals with the bank and your customer for accepting online payments. The provider then takes a cut out of all the sales that you generate.

If you don't expect to generate lots of sales, such a solution may be acceptable in the short-term. Once you start generating big sales, think about applying for a dedicated merchant account.

Once you have been accepted, you are ready to start your e-commerce business and to start generating sales and profits.
